South Africa: Nelson Mandela's Land: Welcome to The Country

Unfortunately, on the eve of the world cup, tragedy hit the Mandelas. His great-granddaughter was killed by a drunk driver. Mr. Mandela could not attend the opening ceremony!

Tragedy on the Eve of the World Cup in South Africa: Nelson Mandela's Great Granddaughter Died in Accident

Nelson Mandela was not able to attend the opening ceremony after he had worked so hard to bring the game to South Africa. His granddaughter died in a car accident after a concert. The driver was drunk. So he was not able to participate in the game.
